A river of movement

Letting your thoughts disappear into the tapping sounds of the dancing crowd, so elegant yet energetic. A culture so proud, pushing their chests out while stepping to record speeds of tapping shoes in the spotlight of the stage. Every move is done to perfection – five thousand audience members watch with judging eyes to find a step to look out of place, but they have no luck.
Entertained by the musical talent; they tap their feet and clap their hands to the unique sounds of a live performance. The Irish dancers will remember our South African spirit while we will remember a performance that will make history.
With each person coming from their own background, their passion for tap dancing has broken down the barriers of race, sex and religion. They lock their hands together and perform the most unique and beautiful movements as a river dance by one big family.

If I were the boss...who would then be the boss of me?

The experience of being financially independent is where it all starts. Then comes the power of the knowledge and skill. Now you are not only driven by delivering for an income but to experience feelings of recognition, pride and respect, that drives us to succeed.
Unfortunately, we are limited to the responsibilities of our job title and the instructions from our boss. Still we have a mind of our own and this will always cause disagreement or unhappiness within the workplace.
We are brought up to respect the elder, and told to stay quiet. A fear has been enforced upon us to not ask dumb questions and not question the actions of higher authority. Together with the lack of confidence and low self esteem we are doomed to failure. If I were the boss of someone I would like to challenge them to ask questions and speak up. This communication will  be crucial to be able fill the role of a manager.
As each job will add to our experiences and expand our knowledge to our overall career growth, I have learned the simple rule that there will always be someone higher than you are. There will always be someone to report to. Even when I am the boss…there will always be someone or something to be the boss of me. In life we might be the boss of ourselves but still we have our Lords expectations to live up to.
As our responsibilities and income may increase during the years, being the boss means no less than delivering on our expectations; even though the level of our expectations may change, we are always challenged to deliver and so we all have our roles to fill to achieve the organisations objectives.

Pursuing your dreams

Do you know what you want to be? What is important to you and what makes you happy will determine your dreams in life.
Have you ever written down your tasks and goals to achieve those dreams? Most importantly, are you able to take the risk of pursuing the path to your dreams?
It’s like a strategy to your life, a step by step plan that will drive you to succeed into that you are meant to be.
Sometimes I feel that I am only living for the day. I am here now and I will be here for a while so this is all that matters… Luckily there are so much more to life and we have to make the decision to get of the comfortable couch and live our lives as we are destined to do.

As I grew older my childhood dreams faded. The reality of life struck me as I realised my dreams are unrealistic and the drive of knowledge and experience has put a halt on my journey.

Worldly things have crowded my view and so my dreams feel unreachable.

I have numbed my mind to rather focus on the smaller annual goals as I am sure, even though my focus is limited, and my goals are small, that while what I do is what I like, a lot of those little goals I do, will at the end grow to be a large goal, a dream of a successful step by step journey, to become what I was made to be.

Without knowing the end result, I take my journey day by day, living for the moment and basing my decisions on what is important to me and what makes me happy at that moment and time.

Two people walk out of a building and into a story

Networking is a key skill to meet key people. People to grow long-term relationships with that will, in the long run, benefit your business. Networking is a full time job as you never know when you will be meeting your next business contact.
Using a simple skill of talking, it starts with telling people what you do. Most importantly you listen to get to know people and find your link to be of help to them. In the beginning the network benefit might not be clear, but practising the skill and making yourself visible to the world around you will open doors to create new business opportunities.
Spreading the word may start with family and friends but soon your confidence will have you approach even strangers. Soon your network connections will grow and what has started with a conversation can then develop into a story of new opportunities, knowledge and experiences.
It can be as simple as walking out of a building with a stranger and walking into a story of a successful long-term relationship business contact.
I met my current boss at a PRNet function. I started the conversation on something as simple as a wine choice and as the evening came to an end we exchanged details. A month later I was contacted to send my CV and was offered a job, which I ofcourse took. That was more than a year ago and I was told that my confidence to approach a stranger was what has won them over.

If not now, then when?

Living in a high speed era means that our daily lives consist of putting the paddle to the metal. We think faster, we talk faster, we walk faster and so a day is filled with so much more of everything.
We neglect the importance of balance and having a hobby. Something you enjoy doing in your leisure time without expecting any payment or reward. Does that even make sense?
So many people feel they do not have time to take on a hobby – missing out on the most interesting part of their lives - to increase their quality of living!
A hobby is what defines you; showcasing your interests and talents. If you then don’t have any interests, who would then show interest in you? If you don’t make time for yourself, who would then want to make time for you? If you do not set out time to find happiness, how will happiness then find you?
So set the goal and follow it, IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN?
